Registering a Domain Name at GoDaddy

  1. Go here.
  2. Enter a domain name in the search box and click "Continue."
  3. If it is available, the checkbox will already be checked. Ignore the other names they suggest and click "continue"
  4. Ignore their offers, click "No thanks. Continue to checkout..."
  5. Now you will add your Domain Registration Information. The first option on this page is create a new GoDaddy account, or to log in to an existing account. You will create a new account. Enter your information and press "Continue."
  6. The next page lets you review your domain registration information.
  7. Select Standard Registration if you don't mind the WHOIS directory showing your address, phone and email. Otherwise you can make the domain private. Up to you! Then click "Continue."
  8. The next page lists the domain you selected. Select the number of years you want to register the domain for. Next, choose your payment method.
  9. Click "CHECKOUT NOW" to move to the next page to enter payment information. Follow the instructions on screen to finish the registration process. They will probably get you to purchase other things, but the domain name is all you need.

Registering a Domain Name with Web Hosting

  1. Go GoDaddy.com
  2. On the green bar near the top of the page, put your mouse over "Hosting & Servers" (the menu will expand)
  3. Click on "Hosting Plans"
  4. Next to "Economy Plan" select the lenth of the contract you want and make sure it says "Linux" right above that
  5. Scroll down and decline the free .info domain, then click on "Add to Cart"
  6. You are now at the page where they try to get you to buy lots of other stuff. Ignore all of it and scroll right down to the end of the page and click "Continue."
  7. You can now see your shopping cart but before you check out you will want to register a domain
  8. Type in the domain you want where it says "Add a domain to my order"
  9. Once you get a name that is available, click "Continue"
  10. Choose the length of registration and whether you want it to automatically renew or not
  11. Choose the type of registration (Standard is usually just fine, but if you want to pay extra for privacy you can) and click "Continue"
  12. Back at the shopping cart, you should see your domain name added
  13. You can then select payment method and go from there (be sure to make a note of any account number, username, and password so I will be able to upload your site)
